Title

Other possible titles for thes blog were:

  • Silence, Exile and Cunning
  • This Machine Kills Fascists
  • That's When I Reach for my Revolver
What these title all have in common is that they make me sound like I'm 22 and think I know what I'm talking about.

I chose "Free the Turtles" because its something I came up with when I was 16, depressed, sleep deprived and completely full of myself. Since I came up with this myself during a crazed moment, I can be reasonably sure that the reference is as inscrutible as possible.

I have another blog, where I write in professional persona for a particular audience. Here, I write what I really think. Also, maybe I can fool myself into thinking that I'm 22 and I know what I'm talking about. Either of these would be good feelings.

I'm sorry to inform you that the Turtles broke up many decades ago. While they may have had a hit song or two in the 60's or early 70's -- and maybe a reunion tour along the way -- I do believe that they remain only broken up, not imprisoned.

I apologize for the bad news. A BlogNameChange might be in order.

Perhaps "Free the Terrapins"? That would more accurately reflect what I was after when I first came up with the phrase (see there were these turtles and they were in this cage and I hadn't had much sleep so I started waving my arms around ...)
